What the verdict means
Pinterest's feed is a masonry grid: every pin is scaled to the same column width, so the only thing that varies is height. A 2:3 pin renders half again as tall as a square one, which is the entire reason tall pins get repinned more — they are on screen longer.

What to export
1000 × 1500, JPG at 80 quality, for anything photographic. Pinterest accepts JPG, PNG and WebP up to 20 MB, and a photo-heavy PNG export is the usual cause of an upload failing with a message that never mentions size.
Above 1000 px wide adds nothing, because Pinterest resizes on upload. Below it, the image goes soft on a high-density phone screen, and the on-image text goes first.
The safe area
Pinterest overlays its own interface on your image: the save button top-right, product tags bottom-left on merchant pins. None of it is documented as a hard rule and all of it changes. The durable response is to keep the message inside the middle 70% of the pin, so any overlay costs you decoration rather than meaning.

Common questions
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read by your own browser with the standard image API and never leaves your device. There is no server call in this tool at all.
What is the ideal Pinterest pin size?
1000 × 1500 pixels — a 2:3 aspect ratio. Larger exports at the same ratio look identical once Pinterest resizes them, so 2000 × 3000 buys you nothing but file size.
What happens if my pin is too tall?
Past roughly 2:4.2 the feed truncates it, cutting the bottom off wherever it lands. Long infographic pins are the usual casualty.
Does Pinterest reject square images?
No. A square pin publishes fine and simply occupies about a third less vertical space in the feed than a 2:3 pin at the same column width.
